  • One of our Region’s own, Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton of the 125th district, has been appointed Chair of the New York State Assembly’s Libraries and Education Technology Committee. Lifton, whose home office is in Ithaca, has been a strong supporter of libraries. She is quoted in the 6/5/09 Ithaca Journal: “I’m passionate about the importance of reading and literacy,” she said. “I  welcome the challenge and the opportunity. Libraries are critical institutions in a democracy, and in our state.”  She also said,  “After too many years of stagnant state funding, and in this tough economic time, libraries have been forced to cut programs and staff.” more

Featured in the Tech Fair were AskUs 24/7, Tools of History, InfoQuest Text Ref, Twitter, Online Programming for All Libraries (OPAL), Second Life,  Kindle,  SMARTBoard, Skype, and screencasting.
