Libraries have undergone a major transformation in the recent past, and the people who work in them are faced with the challenge of managing their own metamorphoses in response. This workshop, in the form of a panel discussion, will address various aspects of the library assistant’s career and personal development and the importance of the individual’s taking responsibility for his or her own professional growth. Some of the topics which will be discussed by the panel and the attendees are:
v Goal setting and planning
v Conferences and workshops
v Professional literature, paper and online
v Formal education, including paths to the MLS
v Online resources
v Social networking
v State and national certification
We invite you to bring a brown-bag lunch and to participate in a short lunch meeting after the session to network with peers, and discuss topics for future Library Assistants’ Special Interest Group gatherings.
