NYS Academic Libraries Conference, 2005.  The Information Commons:  Adapting to the Net Generation Students

The NY3Rs Association and the Academic and Special Libraries Section of NYLA co-sponsored a very exciting conference in Saratoga Springs in November, 2005 on how to plan and implement an Information Commons.  Joan Lippincott, Associate Executive Director of CNI led the conference with an exploration of the characteristics of Net Gen students and what impact they will have on how libraries provide services and spaces that are imaginative and attractive enough to encourage use.

There were several presenters, who had had responsibilities for developing big and small Information Commons, who covered such topics as successful models of information commons, relationships and campus politics, rewarding planning, and staff reactions.  Not only did participants learn how to plan and develop a successful Information Commons, they were treated to a whole new way of thinking about all library services that was exciting and rejuvenating.
