Disaster Planning and Collection Salvage

Fire! Flood! Who would you call? What would you need to minimize the damage?  Advance preparation is key – so is doing the right things quickly when disaster hits. This workshop is designed to address the basics of disaster planning, and will focus on the recovery and salvage aspects of emergency response. Instructor: John Dean, Preservation and Conservation Librarian, Cornell University.

Participants in this workshop will gain a solid understanding of how to manage email, use chat, RSS, and more, and learn to use online survey tools to get quality results. Library staff need these skills now, both for our own communications and in order to respond to patrons’ need for help with these information tools. Instructor:  Eric Machan Howd, Coordinator of Online Learning Services, Tompkins Cortland Community College.

 

Weeding: Collection Development’s Evil Twin

This program will cover the fundamentals of weeding, including a variety of approaches, both scientific and intuitive. The class will review the common barriers to weeding and techniques for successful collection management. Instructor: Marc Wildman, Acquisitions & Bibliographic Services Librarian, SUNY Cortland.
