In 1967, the Council held its first annual meeting at 8pm
at what was then Harpur College,
SUNY Binghamton. We were delighted to go back there for our 40th
Annual Meeting at the more sensible hour of 10am. After a lovely welcome from
Provost Mary Ann Swain, we had a
short business meeting where the key action was to elect two Trustees to the
Board: Karen Creenan
from Finger Lakes Library System for a second term and Anne Voorhees from the School Library System at the Cayuga
Onondaga BOCES for a first term.

The Special Service Award was presented to John Meador, Director of the Binghamton
University Libraries for support of professional development both for staff
at BU as well as their participation in regional continuing education.
Staff of the Binghamton
University graciously
showed off the two Information Commons in Bartle and
the Science Libraries. Both places were thronged with students attesting to
their value.
|
|

During a great lunch, we did the drawings for twenty-two
fabulous baskets donated by our members, some of our vendors, and
individuals.
|
|

Many of these
people at the meeting were delighted with
their
winnings.
A list of basket raffle winners may be seen below.
Funds from this raffle will support
our spring continuing education program. Thanks to all our donors and to
those who purchased tickets!

Once that excitement was over, Jean Currie, Executive Director of SCRLC talked briefly
about the early history of the Council
and the issues that concerned members back then – delivery, interlibrary
loan, newspapers
Anne Kenny, Senior Associate University
Librarian for Public Services and Assessment, Cornell University, gave a fascinating look at what issues
libraries will be concerned about from now on- taking the library to the
user, changing the nature of the collection, how technology will change what
we do. (JC)
