Audience:

Librarians and staff from all types of libraries responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating user needs and library services in today’s rapidly changing library environment.

 

This workshop will survey the various options that libraries of all types can use, as they strive to understand expectations, assess success, and provide quality user-based services. Topics to be covered will include:

·        The 21st century library and the current user environment

·        Developing an achievable plan for understanding user needs

·        Doing some R&D (research and development):

o       Best practice examples

o       The menu of assessment choices

o       Selecting the best tools for understanding your user’s expectations.

This session will engage the participants in discussion and activities.

 

Our facilitators for this workshop are the principal consultants in Global Library Consulting:

 

Peter Genovese brings three decades of library director and consulting experience in academic and public library environments. He has presented and consulted for both domestic and international institutions and conferences. He is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service, a Board member on the New York Higher Education Initiative (NYSHEI), and provides leadership on numerous boards and councils. Mr. Genovese is currently Director of Libraries at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.

 

Pat Albanese (Pitkin) - For nearly 30 years, Ms. Albanese led the Libraries at Rochester Institute of Technology through a variety of user-centered technology innovations and building projects. Under her leadership as Chief Information Officer, the Mount Holyoke Library and Information Technology organization was awarded the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award. She has been a leader in statewide consortia, a founding leader of ConnectNY, NYSHEI, and Pi2. She has consulted in the US and abroad. Ms. Albanese is currently the Gannett Distinguished Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Imaging Arts.
