The primary reason for digitizing materials is to make those materials more accessible to both to current users and to potential users who may not even be aware of them. If they don’t know it exists, they can’t come! Where can you find those people to let them know? When is the right time to start promoting your digitization project? Can you publicize it if it is not complete? With a limited budget, how can you maximize the dollars you do have? In addition to traditional promotional techniques, this session will include a discussion of no-cost and low-cost marketing methods.  This, the final workshop in the Ready, Set, Digitize series, will focus on developing a strategy for promoting your digitization program, both during its development and after it has been implemented. Attendance at prior sessions is not required.

Jill Hurst-Wahl, MLS, is president of Hurst Associates, Ltd. and a senior instructor in Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies.  She has over 20 years of diversified professional experience with significant accomplishments in information retrieval and information technology.  Jill has worked on digitization planning projects with several library consortia. Jill writes daily in her blog, Digitization 101, which strives to keep people up-to-date on changes in digitization.

Ready, Set, Digitize is a series of one-day workshops cosponsored by SCRLC and CLRC (Central NY Library Resources Council). These training events are designed to develop a regional cadre of people able to digitize and manage resources to contribute to their libraries’ collections and the SCRLC regional repository. This training is funded in part by Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds, awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
