Preservation Awareness Project, Phase V

Putting Theory into Practice

Putting Theory into Practice is a workshop series underwritten by funds received through a NYS Discretionary Grant for Conservation and Preservation. It includes eight workshops; all taught by Cornell University's conservation and preservation specialists. The series’ objective is to help regional libraries and historical agencies add to their knowledge base and skills by offering sessions related to managing collections (monitoring, handling, exhibiting, repairing, salvaging) and environmental concerns (insects, temperature, humidity, mold, rodents, bats).

The workshops will train regional libraries in planning processes which will ensure an appropriate environment to prevent common preservation problems, and to offer solutions when, or if, these processes should fail. As libraries implement sound environmental conditions in their libraries, the same conditions will be beneficial for the staff and users of the library. All workshops in this series will emphasize hands-on activities.

A discounted series subscription fee, $200.00, is available for SCRLC members registering for all eight workshops.  This will cover refreshments and lunch. Each month, from September 2006 through April 2007, one of these workshops will be presented in the Ithaca area. Further details about this, and all SCRLC training sessions, are available on the SCRLC calendar at http://www.lakenet.org/scrlc/calendar.html
