Audience: Library staff in public and special libraries, historical agencies, and museums.Maximum of 25 participants.
This workshop is designed to address the basics of disaster planning and will emphasize the recovery and salvage aspects of emergency response. The first section of the program will deal with the practical matters of preparation, and those components of disaster planning dealing with speedy and well-prepared response, including the assembling of general and unit supplies.
The second part of the program will be a live demonstration of recovery and salvage techniques.

John Dean is Cornell University’s Preservation and Conservation Librarian. John received his City and Guilds of London Institute medal in bookbinding, a Master of Arts degree in Library Science (University of Chicago), and a Master of Liberal Arts degree in the History of Science (Johns Hopkins University). John has lead the Cornell University Library preservation program since 1985. He is author of several works on conservation and preservation management, has taught conservation and preservation management at the University of Maryland, Syracuse University, the University of Alabama, and the State University of New York at Albany.
