RESOURCE SHARING USERS GROUP PRESENTATION

Redefining Interlibrary Loan, September 21, 2006,

             Steele Memorial Library, Elmira, NY

This program was well attended by 33 people from various types of libraries within our region.  Both administrative and support staff were represented.

Mary Sue Iddings from OCLC presented us with information about the benefits of a group catalog. She and Kate Vincent, OCLC, will be working with SCRLC to investigate the possibilities of a regional group catalog.

Jon Penn, Nylink, introduced us to “Recent Enhancements and Future Plans for Resource Sharing”.  He covered filtering by volume/year in custom holdings, the ability to renew over dues for items that are more than 14 days overdue, “review-in-process’ category, batch updating and printing enhancements, auto deflection, improvements to supplier status changes, link to the administrative module and local holdings, and constant data persistence where it is repeated into the ILL form. Jon briefly went over changes that are expected in 2006-2007.  If you would like a copy of his power point presentation, please contact Betty Maute at bmaute@lakenet.org or 215-887-2190.

The afternoon breakout sessions were lively discussions where everyone shared their experiences and gained some useful knowledge.  Our moderators were:

Document Delivery Technologies – Ben Hogben, Access Services Manager, Ithaca College

Staff & Training Issues – Lorie Brown, ILL & Youth Services, Southern Tier Library System

ILLiad Users - Helen Insinger, Head of ILL & Document Delivery, Binghamton University

A special thanks to our moderators whose expertise and generosity were instrumental in making this program a success.  SCRLC encourages collaboration and resource sharing, however, it is our members that give strength to our programs.  (BLM)
