Why struggle with the
electronic resources hydra alone?
Any library staff involved in selecting and/or managing
electronic resources of any sort are invited to join a new Special Interest group
at SCRLC: Electronic Resources Special
Interest Group (ERSIG). The purpose is to bring together regional library staff
to discuss issues of interest, share solutions to problems, and coordinate any
actions which might benefit regional libraries.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 10am in the SCRLC Annex. The agenda for this first meeting will be:
1. Introductions
and what is happening with electronic resources in your
library.
2 What are the key concerns for which you need
advice or help.
3. Logistics for
this group: meeting times and places,
topics you would
like addressed
etc.
In the future, possible topics for discussion, presentations
or
activities might include:
* Selection decisions
* Licensing issues
* Vendor/agent/producer issues
* Keeping track of licenses and contracts
* Cataloging issues
* Training issues
* Budgeting
* Aggregations, overlaps
* Implementation tips and pitfalls
* Training needed for the SIG members
* Vendor visits
Meetings would be held about every 6 weeks, at a time and
location chosen by the group. Once the
group is established, a discussion/distribution list will be developed as well.
We hope you can come to this initial meeting of the
Electronic Resources SIG
