SCRLC Electronic Resources Committee (ERC) 2003
Reporting:
The Committee will report to the Advisory Committee on Information
Technologies and Services. A member of
the ACITS Committee will be a liaison on the ERC. The SCRLC liaison to ACITS will also be the staff liaison to ERC.
Charge:
The Committee will research, review, and recommend electronic
information resources for all types of libraries in the region. It will create,
maintain, and analyze information on user needs and library electronic
resources. The Committee will also:
- Assess
regional needs for electronic resources such as databases (A&I, full
text etc.), numeric or other information databases, and other electronic
information.
- Investigate
potential electronic databases for content, price, suitability etc. for
the region.
- Help
SCRLC develop and maintain a database of information useful in
establishing contracts (member information, FTEs, populations served,
existing electronic resources etc.).
- Make
recommendations for electronic resources that might be useful across the
whole region, all types of libraries, specific types of libraries,
specific types of users, or any other category that is practical.
- Make
recommendations on funding sources including program funds, library
contributions, fees, etc.
- Monitor
value, usefulness, statistics etc. of electronic resources obtained
regionally.
- Monitor
other consortial or individual library purchases of electronic resources
to help either support or not overlap with potential SCRLC regional purchases.
Membership: The membership will be broadly
representative of the SCRLC multi-type membership, and if possible match the
membership categories of ACITS. It
should be made up of volunteers who are selectors, users, and reference
librarians:

Activities in 2003
- Continue
to help SCRLC staff develop a database of regional information to support
an e-resource service (Members, FTEs, populations served etc.)
- Monitor
e-resources currently purchased in the region and current activities in
the state.
- Review
process for 2002 and make recommendations for any needed changes.
- Recommend
use of RBDB funds for e-resources for 2004.
- Review
models for database cost-sharing and make recommendations for implementing
appropriate model(s) for the region.
