RESOURCE SHARING UPDATES
Good News
We will soon be sending out a request for your Regional Interlibrary Loan Statistics for the period of July 2005 through June 2006.
We use this information to calculate our Resource Sharing Subsidy which is intended to compensate your institution for regional ILL participation. This year we are pleased to tell you we have increased the total subsidy from $25,000 to $30,000!
The request for statistics will be sent to the ILL contact we have on file. If you would like to request that the form be sent to a specific individual, please send the contact information to Betty Maute: bmaute@lakenet.org
In addition, this year we will be asking you to complete a survey so SCRLC can create and maintain an updated database of all of our member’s Resource Sharing related information. This will help us to better understand our members’ needs and keep useful contact information in a central location available to all participating. We appreciate your cooperation and contributions to our regional resource sharing network! (BLM)
Local Holdings Maintenance (formerly
Union Listing)
In February 2006 Passport Union Listing was replace with Local Holdings Maintenance in the Connexion Browser. OCLC converted the format of its local data records (LDRs) to the MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data. OCLC states:
“OCLC Local Holdings helps you
maintain accurate, current holdings information. This information supports
interlibrary loan by providing your library's holdings for materials in any
format, including serials. By making all aspects of the collection known, it
also supports collection development. It provides finding tools for local users
and staff and assists remote users in deciding whether to travel to the library
to use the collection. Finally, it supports consortial
sharing, cooperative collection development and acquisition.”
This is important to our
regional resource sharing, so if you need assistance in learning the new way of
doing updates, check out OCLC. They
offer updates, documentation and useful tutorials on their website: http://www.oclc.org/localholdings/default.htm
If you feel you need a more hands-on instruction, please check out Nylink Educational Services for scheduled classes at: http://www.nylink.org/training.htm
If you need help in
updating your records, please use the services of SCRLC:
To submit changes, please use the forms on our website: http://www.lakenet.org/res_share/index.html
