TAKE PART IN “THE WORD ON WOMEN PROJECT”
If there is an interest among
repositories in the SCRLC 14 county region to take part in a statewide DHP
project, we would like to know.
The Word on Women: A Directory of Historical Records Collections Documenting Women in
History in Upstate New York is housed on the Central New York Library Resources
Council website, at www.clrc.org and click
on Word on Women.
This Directory was designed
as a tool for teachers and students, media in news and entertainment, scholars,
public policymakers, and others who see the value of women in history, and
especially of women in this region. Raising public awareness of the
contributions made by local women in fields of science, education, religion,
the arts, medicine, and numerous other walks of life, only furthers the
perception of Upstate New York as the source for some of the most important
milestones throughout history.
This resource guide contains
entries from 141 archives, libraries, historical societies, schools and other
repositories holding historical records pertaining to women. Each entry
contains a brief description of the individual repository’s holdings specific
to women, and other information of interest to researchers.
This directory covers
collections about women that are held in 28 counties in four New York State
regions: Central New York region – Herkimer, Madison, Oneida and Onondaga
counties; in the Rochester region – Livingston, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming
counties; South Central New York region – Allegany, Broome, Cayuga, Chemung,
Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga,
Tompkins and Yates counties; and the Western New York region – Cattaraugus,
Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara and Orleans counties.
