WEBMASTERS’ SIG REDUX!

In January 2000, SCRLC sponsored the first Webmasters’ Special Interest Group that would meet quarterly to discuss various web related subjects like usability and accessibility, editing and management, proxy servers and database driven websites, as well as different aspects of website writing and redesign.

These informal meetings, which generally lasted 2 hours and often included an opportunity for lunch afterward, were usually led by the SIG members themselves who were willing to share their expertise and valuable insights.  They were held in various locations throughout our 14 county membership to give everyone the opportunity to attend, and most importantly, participation was open to all: librarians, technicians, webmasters and anyone else with an interest in Website related topics.

It’s been a couple of years since the Webmasters’ SIG last met, but lately,  we are hearing renewed interest in reactivating this excellent networking and learning opportunity. Earlier this month an email was sent to former attendees and the response has been enthusiastic.  Are there things about web design you would like to discuss with your peers? Do you have an expertise you would like to share? Would you like to learn how others "do it good?" If so, please consider supporting the reactivated Webmasters' SIG! Just email back to me, kjackson@lakenet.org, and I will keep you up to date on our progress. Also, please feel free to share this information with others. (KJ)
