Environmental Concerns of Graphics Conservation Preservation

Instructors: Tatyana Petukhova & Michele Hamill, Cornell

This workshop will review the different types of graphic materials that libraries and archives must care for, including photographs, maps, manuscripts, prints, and, occasionally, works of art. Some of the basic principles of housing, storage, and display will be discussed, as well as some of the fundamentals of user access and safe handling.

Responding to Mold and Other Environmental Problems

This workshop will cover issues relating to the response to mold infested library and archives materials and will focus on prevention and some basic remedial treatments.

This workshop will present the various options available for preservation copying of library and archival materials. Discussions will focus on the pros and cons of preservation photocopying, microfilming, and digitization.

This workshop will present an overview of Integrated Pest Management practices and will examine non-toxic pest management alternatives to pesticides for book and manuscript collections, and the building, that house them.
