2006
Goals Review – Goals
have been achieved and 2006 has been an extremely successful year for regional
E&T efforts. Computer-related training has covered topics such as digital
photography and online surveys. The Libraries:
Place, Service, or Both? grant has allowed us to
meet a wide range of audience needs with topics including marketing, library
outreach, distance learning support, and library as place. Other councils
report minimal success with their distance learning efforts, but the committee
feels it is still an important adjunct to face-to-face education and should be
kept alive in SCRLC members’ awareness.

Draft
Goals for 2007
1.
Identify
currently significant hands-on computer session topics and desired levels to
respond to our members’ needs.
2.
Investigate as possible workshop topics: (new topics
will be identified at next meeting).
3.
Investigate
educational delivery options (such as remote classrooms and computer-based
training) for their impact on SCRLC’s audience.
4.
Explore
opportunities and topics for SCRLC’s training events.
5.
Educate
SCRLC members about delivery options for their patrons.
4.
Recent Workshops & Events – Recent events have been very well
attended and evaluations have been very good to excellent. N.Hardy taught a
class on searching and the SCRLC-provided databases for Auburn Memorial
Hospital (AMH). AMH has already requested another session for their nursing
supervisors.
5. Upcoming
Events --Popular classes
from last summer’s sessions, Digital
Photography and Surveys 101,
have been scheduled during Regents testing week in hopes that school librarians
will be able to attend. Two of the final classes in the Libraries: Place, Service or Both series will examine social
networking tools and libraries’ place in the new online community environments.
6. New
Business: Cornell’s
head of libraries, Sara Thomas, is leaving. Lance reported that that change,
plus the new president will lead to many other changes at the university. Diane
said that BAE is considering consolidating its libraries. Judith is serving on
the Marketing Team at IC.
7.
Cornell Library Tour – Lance showed us through the Edgar Allen
Poe exhibit at the underground Kroch Library. Fascinating!
