Training Advisory Committee
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Memorial
Library, SUNY Cortland
Minutes
Present: Matt Hogan (chair), Judith Andrew, Lance
Heidig, Karen Dillon, Janet Hogan, Diane Talbut, and Gail Wood. Minutes taken
by Nora Hardy.
Excused: Gail Barraco, Mary King,
Robin Petrus.
- December
20, 2005 minutes approved.
- Structure
- Goals for 2006 - approved with
addition of “best practices” and new topics: “outreach librarianship,
distance learning support, web accessibility, Google, online resources
and communications”
- Distance learning
document-
Janet Hogan will draft web page to help communicate what the committee
has compiled to regional library staff.
- Upcoming Workshops
& Events for spring 2006 are scheduled and response is good so far.
- Report to the Board, 2005 –
tabled for committee approval at March 29 meeting.
- Plan of Service – The Committee
reviewed the expiring plan and concluded that, except for corrected
wording on the “Strategic Intent Two” page, it still represents
appropriately the goals and objectives for SCRLC’s education and training
activities. The phrase “Training a
la Carte” should be replaced with “Workshops on Wheels, ” and acronyms RBDB
and HLSP should be replaced by their complete program names for clarity.
- New Business After considerable
discussion it was decided that the Committee will refocus its efforts
regarding Distance Learning. Information gathered suggests that DL has not
worked well at other 3Rs, is too expensive for SCRLC to do by itself, and
the Committee will try to share what it has learned with regional staff
through web pages, newsletter articles, and as part of training events
when possible. The Committee was unaware of the Continuing Education pages
on LakeNet.Org N.Hardy will send
the link via email so the group can review the pages and consider how to
promote and update them.
