2.      Recent Workshops and Events –Workshops have been very well attended and well-received this spring. The Conservation/Preservation series and the 2-year Library: Place, Service, or Both? series ended in April. For the first time in years, library staff are to be able to leave the library for training with fewer obstacles. Evaluations have been excellent.

3.      Library 2.0

a.      Computers in Libraries (CIL) Hardy reported that sessions were excellent. There were many reports on successful implementations of Lib.2.0 tools by libraries, such as blogs, wikis, Flickr, etc.

b.      UNYSLA Stephen Abram spoke eloquently about the need for libraries to prepare for change as library staff will be retiring and new generations’ information needs and communication preferences vary from traditional patterns. Stephen’s Lighthouse at http://stephenslighthouse.sirsidynix.com/ is a great way to monitor trends.

c.       Webinars N.Hardy reported she has researched the technical requirements for a 4-5 session series of webinars on Library 2.0 tools. The profits from the SCRLC Annual Meeting Basket Raffle will help defray the cost. Committee members recommended that sessions be no longer than 60 minutes to assure best learning and attention.

d.      23 Things The Charlotte and Mecklenberg County PL has shared a their process for inspiring their staff, helping them learn new technologies, and improving esprit d’corp. More info is available on their blog http://plcmclearning.blogspot.com/

e.       The Committee members were very interested in identifying tutorials to assist patrons with specific tasks. They felt that a workshop on how to create a tutorial would be extremely valuable to all types of libraries. They were also interested in exploring any “clearinghouse” repositories for tutorials.

4.      Leadership and Collaboration Grant – All ten digitization classes have been scheduled and many registrations have already been received. The other six sessions are in the planning stages, and will include a Web 2.0 workshop by Robert Lackey, one on exceeding patron expectations, one on staffing and NextGen issues, and one on cataloging/metadata-FRBR/RDA. There will also be a leadership workshop and a collection development conference.

Around the Table – K.Jackson announced that SCRLC will be buying new laptops to replace its aging mobile training lab units. Appreciation was expressed for this year’s weather emergency warnings; they eliminated much uncertainty. Matt Hogan reported that Finger Lakes PLS workshop series on lifelong learning and libraries is excellent. BAE is working on plans to consolidate catalogs from libraries in several locations. BCC has received a grant for information literacy for technology students. Many staff changes at BU are making the debut of the downtown Binghamton campus challenging to staff. DCMO BOCES has a very ambitious schedule of speakers for professional development of the school librarians in the coming year. Cornell is also in the throes of many staff changes, as well as major renovations in Mann Library.

5.       Adjourned at 12:00 noon.

6.      Next meeting: Wednesday, June 13, 2007, 10:00-12:00 at in the Memorial Library at SUNY Cortland.
